When using digital platforms today it is easy to develop the feeling that you constantly need to stay alert. Something may appear free at first, only for restrictions, extra costs or dependencies to become visible later on. Sometimes systems seem designed to keep people engaged for as long as possible before it becomes clear what they are actually expected to pay for. This is exactly the feeling we wanted to avoid with Aktivismo. Not because we believe we can solve everything perfectly, but because trust matters more to us than short term advantages.
Why this matters to us
I have often experienced myself how frustrating it can be when digital services are deliberately unclear. You invest time, build something and eventually realise that certain functions are suddenly only available through payment or that important information was hidden away somewhere difficult to find. In the context of political and social engagement this feels especially wrong to me. Many people already contribute their energy and free time through voluntary work and should not also feel that they constantly need to watch out for hidden conditions. That is why it became clear to us early on that Aktivismo needed to approach these questions openly.
Engagement should not depend on money
We believe that good ideas can emerge from all kinds of different realities. Some people have time and financial stability while others are working with very limited resources and still trying to create something positive. When tools for engagement are only truly accessible to those who can easily afford them, an invisible boundary quickly appears. Aktivismo is therefore meant to remain consciously accessible. The Campaign Creator was not developed so that people would have to struggle through paywalls, but so that they could move more easily towards action.
Openness creates trust
For us transparency means more than simply making prices visible. It also means explaining clearly how decisions are made and why certain paths are chosen. If Aktivismo is to grow and continue over the long term, it naturally requires resources. We want to speak honestly about that rather than pretending everything somehow exists by itself. At the same time we do not want financial questions to become the centre of everything. Trust emerges when people feel that nothing is being artificially hidden or made more complicated than it truly needs to be.
Between idealism and reality
Of course we are not operating outside economic reality ourselves. Platforms require time, energy and technical infrastructure. I think that is precisely why honesty matters. It would be easy to make grand promises or to pretend there are no limits or challenges. But we would rather speak openly about the fact that sustainable development takes time and that fair forms of funding may be part of that process. What matters most to us is the attitude behind it. Funding should support Aktivismo, not place pressure on people or make engagement unnecessarily difficult.
Why we prefer simple rules
The more complicated a system becomes, the easier it is for mistrust to emerge. That is why we try to keep things as clear and understandable as possible. No unexpected extra charges. No deliberately confusing decisions. No artificial barriers that only become visible after long use. We would rather build a platform where people understand what they are getting into. Perhaps that seems less spectacular, but to us it feels more honest. Especially in the social sphere we believe credibility matters more than short term optimisation.
Trust grows slowly
Trust cannot be created through grand words alone. It grows slowly through many small decisions and through the feeling of being treated fairly. Aktivismo may never be perfect and perhaps we will also make mistakes or later change our minds about certain things. But we want people to feel that openness is not just a decorative idea for us but a foundation of our work. That is why transparency does not only mean making costs visible. It also means treating people with respect and honestly showing how Aktivismo works.
