Artificial intelligence has become increasingly present in recent years and with it the discussions about how we work, learn and engage. We have also asked ourselves early on what role it can play in activism. For us this was never about following a trend, but about honestly understanding whether and how this technology can help people take action. Aktivismo grew out of this reflection, and the Campaign Creator is our first concrete attempt to use AI in a meaningful way.
Why we see AI as a tool
We do not see artificial intelligence as a solution, but as a tool. It can help to organise thoughts, suggest ideas and support wording, yet it cannot replace conviction or responsibility. I have experienced how much time it can take to turn an idea into clear language, especially when you feel uncertain or lack experience. This is exactly where AI can support by offering structure and first approaches. For us the opportunity lies in helping people move more quickly from a vague idea to something tangible, and in doing so giving them the confidence to take the next step.
The value of clarity and speed
Many good ideas remain unrealised because the entry point feels difficult. Engagement often does not fail because of a lack of motivation, but because of limited time or missing orientation. AI can help here by accelerating processes that would otherwise require a great deal of energy. When a few thoughts turn into a first campaign text, something abstract becomes concrete. This speed can relieve pressure and create space for what truly matters. Having conversations, reaching people and acting together. For us this is one of the greatest opportunities that AI can offer in activism.
The boundary between support and responsibility
As helpful as AI can be, its limits are just as clear. It does not understand context in a human sense and it does not carry responsibility for what it produces. That is why it is essential to us that responsibility always remains with the people who use the content. Every text, every idea and every suggestion must be reviewed, interpreted and adapted. We see it as our task to remind people that a well written text is not automatically a correct or fair one. Activism means acting consciously, and that awareness cannot be delegated.
Risks we take seriously
Artificial intelligence can be misused. It can amplify misinformation, reproduce bias or encourage the uncritical adoption of content. These risks are real and we take them seriously. That is why we have chosen to set clear boundaries and to exclude certain types of content. At the same time we know that technical solutions alone are not enough. It also requires a mindset on the side of those who use the tools. For us this means sharing responsibility and not treating trust as something given, but as something that must be earned again and again.
Why we still chose to use AI
Despite all the open questions, we consciously chose to use AI in Aktivismo. Not because it is perfect, but because it can help reduce barriers. Many people want to get involved but feel uncertain or overwhelmed. If a tool can help make that first step easier, we see that as a meaningful use. For us the focus is not on the technology itself, but on the impact it can enable. AI should not change activism, but make access to it easier.
Between possibility and responsibility
For us AI in activism remains a field of tension. It opens new possibilities while raising new questions. We try to shape this space consciously without offering simple answers. Aktivismo is also a learning process in this respect, where we observe, adapt and continue to reflect. In the end it is not about whether AI is good or bad, but about how we use it. If it helps more people turn their ideas into action while acting responsibly, then it is a meaningful tool for us. If not, we must be ready to question our own decisions.
