Technology is often either celebrated or feared. Sometimes it seems as though every new technical development must either solve major social problems or inevitably cause harm. While working on Aktivismo we keep noticing that reality is much quieter and more complicated. For us technology is neither something magical nor something fundamentally threatening. What matters instead is how, why and for whom it is used.
Not every technical possibility is automatically meaningful
When developing a digital project, you constantly encounter new tools, functions and possibilities. Many of them seem impressive and some even tempting. At the same time we have learned that not everything that is technically possible truly helps people. Products often become increasingly complex even though they are supposed to make life easier. I often think about how quickly technology can become an end in itself. Aktivismo should not become a place where functions exist simply because they appear modern. We want to create tools that genuinely support people rather than overwhelm them further.
Technology should give people back time and energy
One thought accompanies us in many decisions. Good technology should create space for people. Especially in political and social engagement many people experience a constant lack of time while responsibilities continue to grow. When someone has an idea, they often do not want to spend hours building structures or searching for the right words. This is where we see a meaningful use of technology. The Campaign Creator is not meant to replace human creativity, but to help people reach a clear starting point more quickly. When technology gives people more room for conversations, community and real action, then it serves a meaningful purpose for us.
Responsibility does not disappear through technology
At the same time we do not believe technology can remove responsibility. Especially with artificial intelligence there is a growing impression that difficult decisions can simply be handed over to systems. We consciously see this differently. Even when a tool supports content or simplifies processes, responsibility always remains with the person. That is why we repeatedly encourage people to review results, question information critically and not hand over their own judgement to technology. Technology can support people, but it cannot determine what is human, fair or responsible.
Resources are part of honesty
We believe it is important to speak openly about the fact that digital tools consume resources. Artificial intelligence also requires energy and infrastructure. It would be dishonest to pretend that digital technology has no impact. At the same time we believe technologies should not be judged only by what they consume, but also by the value they create. That is why we constantly ask ourselves whether a tool genuinely helps people, avoids unnecessary detours and makes meaningful work easier. This balance is not always simple, but for us it is part of using technology responsibly.
Humanity must not disappear
Madeleina often reminds me that people are not inspired by technology itself, but by the feeling of being understood and taken seriously. A platform can be highly functional and still feel cold. That is why we think not only about functions, but also about atmosphere, language and accessibility. Aktivismo should not feel like a machine, but like a tool that accompanies people. For us technology is meaningful when it strengthens connection instead of creating distance and when it encourages people instead of making them feel small or interchangeable.
The question of why
Perhaps responsible use of technology always begins with one simple question. Why are we building something in the first place? Not every idea needs a technical solution and not every problem becomes smaller through more digitalisation. For us technology is meaningful when it strengthens people, lowers barriers and respects dignity and self determination at the same time. Aktivismo should continue to grow from exactly this perspective. Not as a collection of as many functions as possible, but as a careful attempt to use technology in a way that supports people without pushing them out of the centre.
