Sometimes a thought begins with a word. For us it was the word “Aktivismo”. It sounded light, open and a little unfamiliar. Only later did we realise how well it reflects what we are trying to do. Esperanto is a language created to connect people without placing one above another. That same feeling accompanies us in Aktivismo. We want to make understanding possible without creating barriers, and to open spaces where people can meet each other.
A language without hierarchy
Esperanto is not a coincidence but a deliberate choice for equality. It carries the idea that communication can take place on equal terms when no one has a linguistic advantage. This approach resonated with us because in activism we often see how language can exclude. Those who know the right words appear more confident. Those who do not sometimes remain silent. We therefore keep asking ourselves how we can shape a platform where people can express themselves without first having to master a particular language.
Understanding begins before the right words
I have often seen that understanding does not fail because people have nothing to say, but because they do not yet know how to say it. Thoughts remain unspoken because they have not taken shape. This is where our work begins. The Campaign Creator is meant to help turn a feeling or an idea into words that are clear and meaningful. It is not about producing perfect language, but about finding a way in. Understanding often begins at the moment when someone dares to start.
Between clarity and diversity
Language in activism always exists within a tension. On the one hand clarity is needed so that messages can be understood. On the other hand engagement lives through diversity, through different perspectives and forms of expression. Madeleina brings into our work the experience that creative language can reach people where pure argument cannot. I focus on keeping content structured and comprehensible. Aktivismo grows in this space between the two. We try to enable clarity without limiting diversity, and to offer orientation without standardising expression.
Misunderstanding as part of understanding
As much as we strive for clarity, we know that misunderstandings will never disappear completely. People bring different experiences, backgrounds and expectations. What is clear to one person may be confusing to another. For us this is part of the process. Understanding is not a fixed state but something that is created again and again. That is why we do not see Aktivismo as a finished solution, but as an invitation to exchange. An invitation to explain, to ask and to keep thinking together.
An open language for an open platform
Our choice of the name “Aktivismo” may at first have been a playful decision. The domain was available, and the word felt right. Over time it has taken on a deeper meaning for us. It stands for openness, for connection and for the idea that engagement does not need rigid boundaries. We want to build a platform that brings people together from different contexts without forcing them into a single form. Language is not a secondary aspect of this, but a central part of how connection becomes possible.
Between words and impact
In the end we are left with a simple but not always obvious insight. Words matter, but they are not everything. They can connect or divide, encourage or unsettle. Aktivismo is meant to help people find words that carry meaning without prescribing how they should sound. Perhaps the real strength of understanding lies in the fact that it is never fully complete. It grows with every conversation, with every idea and with every attempt to understand one another better.
