There is a certain idea of activism that can quietly emerge when we talk about digital tools. As if engagement could be accelerated, automated and endlessly scaled if only the right features were built. We have reflected on this idea ourselves. And the more we work on Aktivismo, the clearer it becomes that this is precisely where a risk lies. Aktivismo is meant to help people take action, but it is not meant to replace action itself.

Engagement is not an automatic process

I have often seen that the desire for change begins with something deeply personal. A conversation, an observation, a feeling of injustice or responsibility. These moments cannot be planned or produced like a technical process. They need time, space and sometimes uncertainty. When we develop Aktivismo, we do not think in automated sequences but in the paths people take. A tool can accompany that path, but it cannot define it.

Between support and simplification

From the beginning we wanted to build something that supports without simplifying where simplification would be misleading. The Campaign Creator helps to structure thoughts and to formulate first drafts. At the same time the process of reflecting on one’s own cause remains essential. It is not about publishing something as quickly as possible, but about becoming aware of what you stand for and how you want to act. Aktivismo is meant to help create clarity, not to make decisions on your behalf.

Responsibility cannot be outsourced

A central question for us is responsibility. When content is generated with the help of artificial intelligence, it can create the impression that part of this responsibility is shifted elsewhere. We see it differently. Responsibility always remains with the people who use, share and bring content into the world. That is why we consciously encourage people to review, adapt and question what they create. Aktivismo is not meant to be a place where content is passed on without reflection, but a space where responsibility is taken seriously.

Activism remains human

Madeleina brings a perspective into our work that constantly reminds us how important expression, emotion and creativity are. Activism is not only about arguments but also about connection, resonance and at times the courage to be vulnerable. This dimension cannot be translated into a machine. If Aktivismo is to be anything, it should be a space that supports these human aspects rather than smoothing them out or replacing them.

Why we consciously set boundaries

Part of our work is also to think about what we do not want to enable. We have chosen to exclude certain kinds of content because we know that tools can be misused. These decisions are not always easy, but they are necessary. Aktivismo is not meant to be neutral in the sense of indifference, but a space shaped with responsibility. A space that protects without controlling and offers orientation without dictating what engagement should look like.

A tool, not a replacement

Perhaps our position can be expressed simply. Aktivismo is a tool. It is there to support, to make things easier and to inspire. But it is not a replacement for what engagement truly is. The idea, the motivation, the responsibility and the decision to act always remain with the individual. And that is precisely where we see its real strength. Engagement is not something that is produced. It is something that emerges.
