For us it was clear from the beginning that Aktivismo must not be limited by financial barriers. We have often seen how good ideas and committed people falter because resources or money are lacking. Especially in voluntary work, in initiatives and small organisations, it is not passion that decides who can get involved, but the means available. For this reason we decided that Aktivismo should remain accessible to everyone without requiring a financial contribution.
The idea of open access
I remember many conversations in which people explained that they wanted to work for a cause but encountered obstacles that had nothing to do with their commitment. For me it became clear that a tool designed to make action easier should not at the same time create another barrier. We wanted to create a space where the idea is at the centre and not the financial ability of the users. This consideration has shaped our decisions from the very beginning and continues to guide us today.
Trust instead of obligation
We know that trust grows when people retain control and are not put under pressure. Being free of charge is for us an expression of this approach. We want people to try out the platform, learn and engage without feeling obliged to pay. In my view this is a form of respect for those who already invest their time and energy to make engagement possible. It is important to us that Aktivismo is perceived as a safe space where motivation takes priority over financial expectations.
Sustainability without burdening the users
Of course running and developing a platform like Aktivismo costs money. We think carefully about how to sustain this work in the long term without placing the burden on the users. My experience with organisations shows that transparency and open communication are crucial here. We want to find ways to maintain operations, support development, and remain fair at the same time. Every financial decision is therefore made deliberately to ensure it does not jeopardise accessibility and shared use.
Freedom for ideas and experimentation
I value the freedom that free access allows. People can try out new ideas, test campaigns, and learn what works and what does not without fear of costs. Aktivismo should be a place that encourages courage, creativity and engagement without linking every action to financial considerations. This freedom is a central principle for us because it encourages people to embrace new challenges and take responsibility without fear or hesitation.
Responsibility lies with us and the users
Being free of charge does not mean that we avoid responsibility. On the contrary, we bear responsibility for the platform and how it functions, and the users bear responsibility for how they use their campaigns and content. I often reflect on how to maintain this balance: making the platform accessible, giving trust and setting clear boundaries at the same time. This responsibility is part of what makes Aktivismo what it is and motivates us to make every decision carefully.
A consciously chosen path
In the end, it remains clear to us that engagement must not depend on money. Being free of charge is for Aktivismo an expression of our belief that every good idea deserves the chance to be realised. We see this path not as a given, but as a conscious choice that involves many considerations. For me personally it is a daily motivation to uphold these principles, continue developing the platform and create a space where people can act freely, creatively and effectively.
