Sometimes something does not begin with a grand plan but with a feeling. For us it was the feeling that engagement is powerful and alive, yet often made unnecessarily difficult. In many conversations, meetings, events and personal moments we saw how many people carry good ideas within them and how quickly those ideas can fade in the pressures of everyday life. Aktivismo grew out of that impression. Not as a complete answer to everything, but as an honest attempt to make engagement more accessible.
The moment a thought became a project
For years I have witnessed how much energy exists within political and social organisations and how often it falters because of structure, lack of time or uncertainty. In my work with JEF Bayern I experience every day how committed people take on responsibility and how valuable clear processes can be. At the same time I felt that the first step is often the hardest. You know you want to change something, but you do not quite know how to begin. From that tension came the desire to create a tool that could turn a vague “We should do something” into a concrete “This is how we can start”. Together we decided not only to discuss that wish but to build it.
Between idealism and everyday life
We both believe deeply that civil society lives through people who get involved. At the same time we know how demanding everyday life can be. Engagement does not take place in isolation but alongside studies, work, family and personal responsibilities. Through her artistic and activist work Madeleina has learned that political messages must touch people if they are to reach them. From my own experience I have learned that good ideas need reliable structures if they are to have real impact. Aktivismo is our attempt to bring these two perspectives together. It should leave room for creativity while offering orientation so that engagement does not collapse under the weight of overload.
The decision to build a Campaign Creator
We consciously chose to begin with the Campaign Creator. Not because texts are everything, but because they are often the first tangible expression of an idea. When people can formulate their thoughts clearly, they gain confidence and the ability to act. The possibility of using artificial intelligence to turn a rough idea into structured campaign elements is not meant to remove responsibility but to encourage courage. From the very beginning it was important to us that responsibility remains with the person. Technology serves as a tool, not as a substitute for judgement or conscience. This conviction shapes every decision we make.
Openness, honesty and trust as our foundation
From the outset it was clear to us that trust must not be an afterthought. If we are building a platform for engagement, transparency and data protection have to be fundamental. We speak openly about how we work, how content is created and where boundaries lie. We decided to exclude harmful content consistently because we do not want a tool for engagement to cause damage. At the same time we invite feedback because Aktivismo is not meant to grow in isolation. It develops through conversations, through criticism and through shared refinement.
A beginning, not an ending
We see Aktivismo as a beginning. It is an attempt to make engagement easier, friendlier and more connecting without losing its seriousness. Many things may change in the future. New functions may emerge and other ideas may be set aside. What remains is our conviction that engagement can strengthen people and build community. With Aktivismo we hope to contribute in a small way to turning thoughts into action and individual voices into something that resonates together.
